Assuming you mean as a freshman in college, yes, this is actually very common. In fact, being part of a sports team will actually make it pretty likely that you meet someone already in a sorority, since there's a pretty good overlap between sports + Greek life.
You'll definitely be pretty busy if you do both (don't forget... there's still... classes and stuff...) but it's very doable and a lot of people enjoy it.
