I am planning on taking a rigorous schedule throughout high school however realized that ap bio does not fit in anywhere. Additionally I quite like the subject and am taking honors bio now. I figured that since ap chem also doesn鈥檛 fit in anywhere I could take chemistry honors over the summer to get it out of the way then take ap bio. Does this seem like a worthwhile choice or am I just wasting my time?
Taking honors chemistry over the summer sounds like a solid plan, especially since you really enjoy biology and want to take AP Bio sophomore year. (Lucky AP Bio is a junior+senior class at mine) But summer can be a great time to focus on one subject without the pressure of other classes, and completing honors chemistry early will definitely help you free up your schedule for AP Bio later. Since you're planning on a rigorous schedule throughout high school, getting ahead can make a big difference. Plus, having honors chemistry under your belt will also give you a better foundation for AP Chem if you decide to take that in the future. If you enjoy science and are motivated, it doesn鈥檛 seem like a waste of time at all! Just make sure you鈥檙e also taking care of yourself and not overloading yourself. Balancing everything is key. Good luck!!!!!
I think you need to ask yourself: are you taking AP Bio because you love the subject, or because you feel pressured to maximize rigor? Colleges care more about balanced performance than stacking APs at the cost of depth or well-being.
Honestly if chem is something you're passionate about and it's easy to understand, then absolutely go for it!! But if you feel like it's going to be a hard class and you might struggle, I would def recommend taking it in person.
If chemistry honors is required to take AP bio next year, I think it鈥檇 be a great plan so you鈥檇 have solid science classes on your record. However if you鈥檙e already qualified to take AP bio next year with your current bio honors class it鈥檇 be much easier to just skip over chem honors. Science is not super important if you鈥檙e not planning on having a career in a science field so even taking AP bio isn鈥檛 a huge necessity. If you also need to, if there鈥檚 any classes available over the summer that鈥檚 on your planned schedule that you鈥檇 feel would be easier to take, definitely do that instead. You don鈥檛 want to really feel stressed over the summer. I don鈥檛 know if my response helped at all but I hope everything works out!! (Coming from a freshman herself)
