Hey everyone, I bet everyone is stressed out with admission being right around the corner (me too dw), but I just had some questions about the essay. Does anyone have any tips? Is it cliche to do a story on your childhood if it links back to why you want to do that degree plan? Also, is it better to do a College Application submission or a direct application? What is everyone writing their essays on?

This is absolutely the response. Clich茅s exist for a reason, after all. If you can be specific, paint a scene, and make the admissions officer feel something in your essay, then go for it! Admissions officers can sometimes lose interest very quickly with well-trodden topics, so make sure to catch their attention quickly! Good luck!

A childhood story isn鈥檛 automatically clich茅 honestly. It mostly depends on how personal/specific it feels and whether it actually says something meaningful about you now, not just 鈥渢his happened when I was 8.鈥� If it connects naturally to your degree choice and growth, it can work really well.
Biggest tip I got was: focus less on sounding impressive and more on sounding real. Admissions people read thousands of essays and can usually tell when someone is forcing it.
As for Common App vs direct application, I鈥檇 just use whatever is easier unless a school specifically prefers one. Common App saves a ton of time if you鈥檙e applying to multiple places.
