When is the best time for me to take the SAT, and how can I prepare effectively without AP or IEB classes at my school
I鈥檓 an 11th grader passionate about studying in the U.S. but unsure if I should take the SAT now or wait until 12th grade. My school doesn鈥檛 offer AP/IEB courses, and I worry my grades and SAT won鈥檛 be enough. I struggle with motivation and procrastination and want advice on improving my grades and preparation.I recently discovered my strong desire to study in the U.S. Now that I鈥檓 in grade 11, I鈥檓 confused about when to take the SAT. Some say take it now, others recommend the PSAT first or waiting until 12th grade. I also have to take the NBT for my local university applications. Since my school doesn鈥檛 have AP or IEP courses, I鈥檓 uncertain how to prepare well for exams like the SAT or make my application competitive. My grades aren鈥檛 great right now, and I鈥檝e been procrastinating. I want to know how to stay motivated, improve academically, and successfully prepare for U.S. university applications.

Take the SAT in Grade 11, ideally by March鈥揓une, so you have time to retake it if needed. Since your school doesn鈥檛 offer AP/IEB, focus on self-study using Khan Academy and College Board practice tests.
Colleges consider your school context, so lack of APs won鈥檛 hurt if your grades and SAT are strong. Build a study routine, improve grades gradually, and get involved in extracurriculars like volunteering or projects. To stay motivated, use timers, set small goals, and reward progress. Overall, recommend taking the SAT now and as early as possible!! PSAT is generally considered a "practice" SAT, but that doesn't mean that a higher grade in it won't be helpful and more "competitive." I recommend just starting the prep now and take it when you're scoring a decent score to you on practice tests.
