How much does chances of admission increase if I had an upward trend of grades?

I've started the college application processes recently and was concerned about my current high school gpa of 3.529. During my ninth grade year my gpa dropped severely to a 2.83 overall, however, during my sophmore year I got straight A's and took 9 college courses in my junior year, also earning nearly straight A's. Would this trend help me get into more selective schools, such as the University of Washington?

The short answer is yes definitely. Some top colleges like Stanford even throw out your 9th-grade transcript entirely when they calculate the Stanford GPA for admissions.
