need based financial aid

Where is the need based financial aid amount under the costs and scholarships section coming from? It is not editable.

For example, for UNC Chapel Hill, it shows me a total cost of $52,026, need based financial aid of $39,782 and an estimated net cost of ($52,026 - $39,782) = $12,244

It's most likely a combination of using the Net Price Calculator for UNC Chapel Hill which is

and also from institutional stats provided in the annual common data set.

The average need back financial aid for first-time freshmen at UNC is about $35,000.

For a more accurate NPC, I suggest you run the calculation yourself with your parents and use the most accurate input data to arrive at the most accurate results.

CV is not a financial aid hub so if you want to know your cost of attendance at any of the schools on your college list run an NPC which is available on either CollegeBoard or directly on the college's financial aid portion of their websites.
