Projects I can take up in school

Hi, I'm going to be applying as an economics major and am looking for some school project ideas.

My friend, a soon to be CS major, recently created a face recognition system for teachers and their attendance which is going to be implemented in school. Can someone please provide some similar strong ideas for projects I can take up in school?
