I鈥檓 an incoming junior and a bit nervous about my application and what i should do to improve my chances at getting into a good college. I鈥檓 planning on majoring in CS and want to get into a higher-end UC. I鈥檓 mainly worried about the extracurriculars that I have and improving on those. Currently my main extracurriculars are that i鈥檓 in a 4 year film academy and could win an award from one of my films, taking CS classes to try and learn coding and programming, and going to take community college courses on programming as well.

As far as ECs go, it is always good to remain consistent in what you do. Being a part of CS related club for one year isn't as impressive as being a part of a different club/activity consistently for multiple years. (However that shouldn't discourage you from doing what you love.) When colleges look at your ECs they don't just see the content, they see the commitment. Being able to show that you can stick with something for an extended period of time speaks to your character and show that you can commit to things you are passionate about. You can take junior year to build your resume, find a mentor, and explore ways that you can be involved in CS to enhance your application.
