Hi! I am looking into taking an ACT prep class which got me interested in test planning! Are ACT prep classes beneficial? Should I take both ACT and SAT if I want to apply to more challenging universities? Or now that it is test-optional for colleges, is it just not helpful to do both?

ACT prep classes can be beneficial, but in the end, it all depends on your efforts. ACT prep classes. You should take the one (SAT/ACT) that you're better at. The reason why people don't take both is that choosing one allows you to focus on just one whereas trying to focus on both will just decrease efficiency.

Colleges don't have a preference for the ACT or SAT. Select the test that best plays to your strengths. Choose the SAT if you like to problem-solve and think carefully over abstract questions. Choose the ACT if you're good at memorizing formulas and good at reading (and reading fast) over math, and you like straightforward problems. Test prep classes are beneficial for the first two times you take the test. After that, there is often a plateau.
