Can I still get into colleges that recommend 3 years of foreign language?

I took Spanish 1 in 9th grade and Spanish 2 in 10th grade. Now currently in 11th grade, I dropped Spanish to double up on science. AP Environmental Science and Honors Anatomy. Should I take Spanish during my senior year?

Hi @noorr5901,

Yes, you should take Spanish in 12th grade. If colleges require 3 or in some cases (Harvard) 4 years of languages, there are no shortcuts around that. It's like applying without a basic data point in your holistic review and doesn't look good. Without the core requirements, you get sorted immediately into the "unlikely" stacks right at the first round.

Thank you! I don't believe some require it just recommend you take it, but I do believe I will end up taking it next year!

Perhaps but without the basics, you put yourself at a disadvantage at top colleges that get 50-65000 applications for 2000 seats.

From Harvard: "here is no single academic path we expect all students to follow, but the strongest applicants take the most rigorous secondary school curricula available to them. An ideal 4-year preparatory program includes 4 years of English, with extensive practice in writing; 4 years of math; 4 years of science: biology, chemistry, physics, and an advanced course in one of these subjects; 3 years of history, including American and European history; and 4 years of 1 foreign language"
