Do colleges ask for high school transcripts and other high school related stuff if you transfer to a different college?
Answered

Do colleges ask for high school transcripts and other related information ( like your high school GPA, how many APs you have taken, your extracurricular and whatnot) if you want to transfer to a different college after freshman year in your current college.

Hi @scholar-_-,

In general yes they do. Why? you ask. Well, when you apply for transfer say from PennState to NYU for next Fall starting in 2023, colleges like NYU do not have enough information to make a transfer decision after 1 semester of college grades. Also, they know typically that most freshmen do not have enough runway to establish great relationships with college professors in that short timeframe to warrant great recommendations, nor do they have enough time and experience to gain great ECs at college. So basically you are a newbie freshman with hardly any data points to gain any sort of confidence from the college you are transferring into.

So if you do some more digging around, you will see that most colleges rely on your HS transcript, course rigor, ECs, awards and honors, work experience, community service, and test scores including either the ACT or SAT to make that determination. And this information is easy to locate on the college's website. For NYU, just go to

Each college has its own set of requirements for transferring however most will accept the Common Application for transfer students. Which is different from the Common App for undergraduate applications.

Good luck.
