Where do I start on my college-specific essay?
Answered

I'm a senior looking to apply to UGA, and their college-specific essay has me stumped. They're looking for students to tell a "funny or interesting story from their high-school career", and I'm struggling to think of a funny story that I could somehow turn into a telling depiction of who I am as a student. I've heard time and time again that college essays should always come back to you, and that they should tell something about who you are as a person. Is it okay for me to use the college-specific essay to simply try and demonstrate my writing and story-telling ability, or should I be trying to say something more about myself? What techniques should I use to start brain-storming if I can't think of a story that would be funny to someone who wasn't there in the moment?

Your essay should definitely relate to who you are - this is more important than it being a superbly written story. You can find brainstorming techniques . Hope this helps!
