UT Austin cutoff?
I鈥檝e always been under the impression that UT Austin rounds down when calculating the top 6% of a high school for automatic admission. Whether you鈥檙e top 7% or top 6.01%, you鈥檙e out. But I鈥檝e recently read some online threads that say UT Austin considers anyone ranked 6.09% or closer to be in the top 6 for automatic admissions purposes. Presumably, this is to be accommodating of tiny differences in large classes. I鈥檓 ranked 42/690 (6.08%), so I was intrigued. Is there any truth to this claim, or is it just a tall tale?

Thanks for your question. I think the best answer will come from you calling UT Austin and speaking to an admissions officer directly. I'm sure everyone in the admissions office knows whether 6% is a hard cutoff or if there is some flex in that number.
They may tell upfront or they may just tell you to apply and see. But I think it's better to ask because you might learn something you can share with the rest of us.
