Should I peer tutor? Answered
I'm a rising senior, and I have applied as a peer tutor in my junior year, I got selected but they told me to tutor in my senior year since there are so many tutors. I have a very rigorous course schedule next year(taking 3 APs), so I'm not sure if I should tutor or not, because I want to do if it increases my chance in college admissions, because it's my senior year.

To be honest, the general answer you are going to get from everyone is 鈥渋f you want to- go ahead! It鈥檚 your choice!鈥� but I understand how irritating those answers can be. You came here for a clear cut answer, right? By no means is what I鈥檓 about to say the only way to think about the situation, but here鈥檚 my answer:
On your application, will it show that you鈥檝e been peer tutoring for an entire year, or just half a year?
- if it will only show up as 1/2 a year, I鈥檓 not sure it鈥檚 worth it with all of your classes
-if it only shows up as 1/2 a year, consider this: are you peer tutoring on general website/someplace like the library, or are you doing it on some highly accredited site or place? If it鈥檚 just a general peer tutoring situation and it only shows up as half a year, I do not think it is worth getting in the way of your grades
-if it shows as an entire year, I say yes! Because you are doing it the entire year, you don鈥檛 have to cram a bunch of tutoring hours to 鈥渟how you are doing it鈥�. You can have a steady tutoring schedule that does not overload your academics

You need to think about the cost vs benefit of being a peer tutor. On one hand, it can boost your EC application if it isn't too strong already. It can also show academic rigour since you'd have to be a good student in order to tutor others.
On the other hand, it doesn't show longevity, since you'd only have been doing it for half a year. It won't be as strong of an extracurricular compared to an EC you have taken for more than a year. If tutoring would affect the amount of time spent on studying or other ECs, then I don't think it's worth the risk.
Overall, it could definitely help if you need extra ECs, but if you think it could potentially affect other areas of your application, it wouldn't be strong enough to warrant a drop in your grades.
If you do not think you can balance it all don't do it. Peer tutoring for only your senior year doesn't demonstrate the longevity schools want to see in extracurriculars. However, If you feel confident in doing it go for it, it won't hurt you.
