No honors classes offered but school is top in state
Answered

My school I attended 9-11 didn鈥檛 offer any honors classes but was top 10 in the state of Tennessee. On Collegevine, should I consider my classes I took 鈥渉onors鈥 because they are described as rigorous and similar to a college course or no?

When I enter in the amount of 鈥渉onors鈥 classes that I technically should have taken, my chances go up like 3-10 points depending on the school. Like for UF my chances went from 47 to 62.

My thought process is that when colleges examine my profile, they鈥檒l see I made all As at a rigorous/competitive school which would be the same as A in a honors class at another school .

I would err on the side of caution doing this because if you write in that you took all honors classes at your HS and the admissions officer doesn't see the word "honors" next to any class you took, they may think you are pushing your luck and ding your application right there and now when they are reading it.

College Admissions officers review applications in the context of whoever else is applying to the same school from your school district, or city or county, then by State. So if no one is recording these classes as "honors" courses including your school and your peer applicants, this will look like a deliberate case of fudging the course rigor.

If you use a more legitimate ranking list like US New World Reports list or Niche, and your school is #10 in Tennessee, then I would think the College Admissions officer would have heard of the school if they are in charge of recruiting applicants from your State.

One thing that Top 10 High Schools across the country have in Common are offering either APs or IBs. So that's why I think there is something amiss with whatever list you are looking at.

Good luck.
