How can I get stronger extracurriculars?Answered
Hello, I am a sophomore in High school and I'm struggling to get more involved. My GPA as of now is fine, but I'm worried that it won't be enough for selective colleges, and I have no idea what to do. Although I am involved in a few clubs, I feel as if I show no leadership in these organizations, and my volunteering hours are far too little. Furthermore, I want to stand out, but I honestly don't really know how to and I don't know if its too late. If anyone could offer any help or advice, that would be greatly appreciated, Thank You.

Hey! First, it鈥檚 definitely not too late for you to get involved. Most people don鈥檛 really get that much leadership until junior and senior year, so you鈥檙e not even particularly behind.
I think the most important thing to do here is to ask yourself what you鈥檙e interested in鈥攚hether that鈥檚 a subject, a type of activity or something else. It鈥檚 going to be easiest to get leadership or significant experience if you try to do it in something you鈥檙e really passionate about (and this can really be anything). Even if it鈥檚 something that doesn鈥檛 have a club at your school, is there a way for you to pursue that interest in your own time? Make a hobby of some sort out of it? Or even start a club? Those kinds of things will always be really appealing to colleges in the admissions process.
The best thing you can do for your future self is get a decent psat score so you can apply to prestigious programs. Apply to boys/girls state, gates scholarship, questbridge, mites, research opportunities(bonus points if its a prestigious university), and stanfords summer programs. Also take college classes at a community college during the summer. There are so many opportunities so just show that you took an initiative to get involved. Also these programs will be great to write about in your personal statements.
