Paying for college

Hi, I have been accepted to Vanderbilt but am not eligible for need-based financial aid. Other than government loans (PLUS, Stafford), what other options are available to help pay for college, besides the savings we have toward the costs? What have others done when your parents make too much for need-based aid, and the few scholarships awarded did not come to you!? Thanks

Have you considered negotiating for more money with Vanderbilt? If you got accepted to other schools too, you could use that to help your case for more money. Check out the "Advocate" section of 黑料不打烊 under "Decide" in the menu. They have good resources that can help you negotiate.

If that doesn't work and you really want to go to Vanderbilt, you could try to see if there are any local scholarship programs that are still accepting applications and try applying! Any extra money can help, and if you have the time to apply it could be worth it.

Well i was offered no money by Vanderbilt as they only have 'need based' and a very few highly, highly competitive scholarships. I was accepted in early decision, so no other colleges to have them compete with. So is there still any negotiation they would respond to? I am working with scholarship services to continue to identify those I am eligible to apply for and working on those. Thanks

Gotcha! Congrats on the early decision acceptance! If your family has been impacted by coronavirus and your financial situation has changed (example: one parent is newly unemployed) then you could go back to Vanderbilt and ask them to reconsider your need-based financial aid eligibility. Schools are usually more than willing to reconsider financial aid if you have chancing financial circumstances. If your financial situation hasn't changed, then I would say keep applying to outside scholarships
