PSAT versions: Is there a different test for each grade?

Hey guys, quick question - is the PSAT the same for all grades, or does it vary depending on whether you're a sophomore or junior? I want to make sure I'm preparing for the right version of the test!

Hello there! Great question. The PSAT test does indeed have different versions that correspond to different grade levels. The main one, known as the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is what juniors take in October for potential National Merit distinctions. Most students prepare for this test during their sophomore and junior year.

For sophomores, there's a version called the PSAT 10, which is basically the same test as the PSAT/NMSQT in content and format but is taken in the spring of the sophomore year. This version doesn't qualify you for National Merit, but it's an excellent practice for the SAT and the PSAT/NMSQT you'll take as a junior.

Additionally, there鈥檚 the PSAT 8/9, which is designed for eighth and ninth graders to start preparing for college. Take care to ensure that you're prepping for the version that you plan to take depending on your current grade level. Your guidance office should have resources or practice materials that can help you prepare. Best of luck in your studying!
