I was chatting with some friends about test scores, and we weren鈥檛 sure if colleges actually consider our PSAT scores when we apply. Can anyone clarify if they鈥檙e taken into account at all?
Hello! It's great that you're thinking ahead about the various factors in college admissions. In general, universities do not look at PSAT scores for admissions decisions. The PSAT, or Preliminary SAT, primarily serves two purposes: it's practice for the actual SAT, and high scorers may qualify for National Merit Scholarships.
However, when you actually apply to colleges, you'll submit your SAT or ACT scores instead. These are the standardized test scores that admissions committees will review. Remember, the PSAT is not something you need to include in your college applications, although the experience and feedback from taking it can be very helpful in preparing for SAT or ACT tests that are part of the admissions process.
Focus on doing well on the SAT or ACT, as those are the scores that will be considered by the admissions committees at most schools. Best of luck with your test preparation!
