Hi! Just a random question, but I'm curious as to what 'SAT' actually stands for. I looked it up, but it seems like the meaning has changed over time. Anybody know the current meaning behind the acronym?
Hi! You're correct that the meaning of the SAT acronym has changed over time. Originally, SAT stood for "Scholastic Aptitude Test." Later, the name was changed to "Scholastic Assessment Test."
However, in 1997, the College Board, the organization that administers the SAT, decided to simply refer to the test as "SAT" without any specific meaning for the acronym. So today, the SAT doesn't have an official meaning, but many still refer to it as the Scholastic Assessment Test based on its previous definition.
