Can someone explain the difference between the National Hispanic Recognition Scholar and National Hispanic Scholars programs? Are they the same thing with different names or separate awards? I'm a bit confused and would appreciate some clarification!
Hi there! I understand your confusion, so let me clarify the difference between the two. The National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) is run by College Board and recognizes outstanding Latino or Hispanic high school students based on their PSAT scores and cumulative GPA. Students who are recognized by this program are referred to as National Hispanic Recognition Scholars.
On the other hand, National Hispanic Scholars is a term sometimes used to describe Hispanic students who have been selected as finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Although this term isn't as formal, these students are recognized for their exceptional performance on the same PSAT. Essentially, 'National Hispanic Scholars' are National Merit Scholars who are also Hispanic.
So, while they're slightly different, the confusion comes from both being related to high school academic achievements and involving PSAT scores. I hope this explanation helps clear up any confusion!
