Hey folks, I'm a high school junior who鈥檚 super into marching band and plays trumpet. I've heard that some HBCUs have incredible band programs, and I'm thinking about where to apply. Could anyone enlighten me on which HBCU schools are known for having the top-notch marching bands?
Hey there! It's fantastic to hear about your interest in marching bands! HBCUs are indeed renowned for their electrifying marching band performances. You might want to check out the 'Human Jukebox' of Southern University and A&M College. Their band performances are legendary, and they've performed at Super Bowls and presidential inaugurations! Another one to look into is the 'Marching 100' of Florida A&M University - they've also earned high praise and have a rich band tradition. Then there's Bethune-Cookman University's 'Marching Wildcats,' whose energetic shows and halftime performances are always crowd-pleasers. Lastly, Tennessee State University's 'Aristocrat of Bands' comes to mind as a program with a solid reputation. Be sure to visit the schools if you can, attend a game, and feel the vibe of each band to see which program suits you best. Wishing you the best of luck - maybe I'll see you perform in one of those famous halftime shows in the future!
