Hi peeps, junior year's got me looking into majors and I'm leaning towards athletic training. I鈥檓 curious about how HBCU programs stack up. Anyone here in an athletic training program at an HBCU? What鈥檚 your program like and how do you think it compares to others?
Hey there! I understand wanting to get a sense of how programs measure up, especially for something as specialized as athletic training. HBCUs offer a wealth of opportunities and a unique cultural experience that you won鈥檛 find just anywhere. When considering an athletic training program, whether at an HBCU or another institution, it's important to look at accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). This ensures that the program meets professional guidelines and that you鈥檒l be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination upon graduation.
Additionally, examine the program curriculum and opportunities for hands-on experience, such as internships or work with athletic teams. Many HBCUs have great relationships with local sports organizations, which can be beneficial. Reach out to the program directors or ask to speak with current students/alumni 鈥 they will give you the best insight into the program鈥檚 strengths and how it has prepared them for their careers.
Comparing programs is more than just looking at rankings; it鈥檚 about finding the right fit for you and your career aspirations. Don't forget, your education is what you make of it鈥攍ook for programs that offer strong support resources and a community that aligns with your values and goals.
