Music is a big part of college spirit and I've heard HBCU bands can be amazing. Can anyone recommend some iconic HBCU songs or band performances I should check out to get a feel for the energy and traditions?
Hi there! Many students at HBCUs can't stop raving about the band performances! You're in for a treat鈥攖he energy is truly something else. One particular favorite is the 'Neck' song performed by Southern University's Human Jukebox. It gets everyone fired up during games! Also, check out Florida A&M's Marching 100 playing 'Happy' - their precision and exuberance are infectious. Another icon would be the 'Ball and Parlay' performed by the marching band at Tuskegee University.
These bands have reputations for not just musical excellence, but breathtaking shows that combine dance, formations and pure entertainment. You can often catch full performances on YouTube or even ESPN when they cover classics games and band competitions. It's all about the experience, and seeing it live is like nothing else. Bring earplugs, though鈥攖hose brass sections don't hold back, and the drumlines are powerful! Enjoy the exploration!
