I鈥檓 not sure how to start looking for HBCUs close to where I live. Are there any tools or maps online that could help me out with this? I'm hoping to visit a few, so proximity is key.
Absolutely, there's a handy resource that might be just what you're looking for! The U.S. Department of Education has an online tool called the College Navigator, and it鈥檚 incredibly useful for searching for colleges, including HBCUs, by location. You can filter your search by various criteria, including 'Specialized Mission Institutions,' and select 'Historically Black Colleges and Universities.' This will give you a list and a map of HBCUs near you.
Also, the Common Black College Application provides a list of its member HBCUs, which you might find useful. Once you've found a few in your vicinity, I recommend checking out each college's official website for scheduling campus visits. It's a great way to get a feel for the campus environment and culture. Hope this helps, and enjoy your campus tours!
