Hi everyone, I've heard about National Signing Day for athletes, but is there such a thing for academics or students in general at HBCUs? If so, how does it work and is it as big of a deal as it is for athletes? I wanna make sure I celebrate my achievements right if there's a chance to! Thanks in advance for the insights!

Hi there! Absolutely, celebrating your academic achievements is super important, and HBCUs do indeed have their own special way to honor this. While there isn't a 'National Signing Day' for academic achievements like there is for athletes, many HBCUs host 'College Decision Day' events, which are generally held on or around May 1st. This is the day when seniors across the country announce where they'll be going to college.

At some HBCUs, this celebration can be a significant event. For instance, my own child participated in a Decision Day at their HBCU, and it was a memorable experience with speeches, music, and students wearing their chosen college's apparel. It's a collective celebration of all the hard work and dedication it takes to get to college, and it's a way for students to show pride in their future school. While it might not get the same media attention as athletes' signing days, among the student community and the schools themselves, it's a very big deal!

I'd recommend checking with the HBCUs you're interested in or have been accepted to see what events they might be hosting. And definitely, take the time to celebrate yourself and your accomplishments—you've earned it!
