Saw a few lists online but can't seem to find clear info 鈥 does anyone know if there are any HBCUs in Dallas, and what kinds of programs they're recognized for?
As a college admissions counselor, I can help clarify the HBCUs located near Dallas. Paul Quinn College is the primary HBCU in the Dallas area. It's known for its 'Urban Work College Model,' which integrates work experience and service learning into the curriculum. This model helps reduce student debt while providing valuable professional experience. The college offers a variety of bachelor's degree programs in fields like Business Administration, Legal Studies, and Education. Moreover, Paul Quinn has gained recognition for its efforts to address societal issues, including its transformation of the campus football field into an organic farm to combat food insecurity in the region.
While Paul Quinn is within the city, Texas also has other HBCUs such as Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University, which are located a few hours away in the Houston area and are known for their engineering and business programs, respectively.
