Ok, so I'm a junior thinking ahead about college and I really enjoy communications 鈥 like media, PR, journalism, you name it. Which HBCUs are known for their communications programs? If anyone has personal experiences or has heard anything about their hands-on training, campus media, or internship placements, that would be awesome to hear!
Howard University in Washington, D.C. is renowned for its communications programs, especially through the Cathy Hughes School of Communications. Here, you can find strong programs in Media, Journalism, and Public Relations. The school鈥檚 location in the nation's capital provides a plethora of internship opportunities with major media and PR companies.
Another institution to consider is Hampton University in Virginia, which offers solid programs in Strategic Communications through the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications. They have great facilities and the proximity to various large markets can aid in finding internships.
Both schools have campus media outlets where you can gain practical experience. It's advisable to visit the colleges, if possible, to get a feel for their campus media facilities and to speak with current students about their experiences.
