Hey guys, as I'm planning ahead, I鈥檇 love to hear from anyone who鈥檚 done a summer internship through an HBCU. What are your thoughts on the application process, and how competitive are these positions? I鈥檓 a rising senior and really want to land a solid internship next summer to round out my extracurriculars before college apps. Any advice would be awesome!
Hello! I'd be happy to share some insight. The application process can be quite competitive, depending on the program and the HBCU. My advice is to focus on crafting a well-rounded application. Highlight not just academic achievements, but also any leadership roles or community involvement that align with the internship's objectives.
Make sure to tailor your resume and cover letter to each internship's specific requirements, emphasizing your relevant skills and prior experiences. Networking can also be pivotal鈥攔each out to past internship participants or faculty advisors for guidance.
In preparation, you should also practice for interviews, as many programs include this as part of the selection process. Keep an eye on deadlines and submit applications early to show enthusiasm. Best of luck鈥攁 well-prepared application can make a significant difference!
