Get some leadership positions like captain in sports or music or student council. A passion project also allows you to show care about a specific thing, gives you something to write about in essays, gives leadership experience, and has community impact. Don鈥檛 worry about fitting the tier 1 and 2, just do something that makes you stand out or is impactful or related to what you want to do in the future.

To improve organically, join a community-based group based on your hobbies. Make connections by being authentic and then see how you can give back. If you knit and want to be a nurse, knit for Nicu babies and make that academic connection. Alot of groups don't have the tech skills a high schooler might. Try to add value to your group based on your skills. Design an independent study based on your interests and show your intellectual interest in a new way. Lots of opportunities if you go looking outside the box. Good luck!

I would say as long as you like what you're doing keep doing them, and try to get some leadership positions in them. It's better to stick with 2-3 extracurriculars and grow as much as you can in them than to just pile on as many as you can to look "impressive". If you're in music, get a leadership position in that. If you're on a sports team, try to become captain. If you're on student council, consider getting a higher position, like president or vice president. If you care about something, try to make a change in that area, such as founding a new club or just impacting a lot of people with what you do. Good luck!
