College reqs
Hi, i'm a high school freshman who is looking for help on finding University's. I know it may seem a bit early but I like to plan. My unweighted GPA is a 4.0 and my weighted is a bit more than a 4.6 (soon to go up to about a 5 if not higher). For University's they don't have to be in the United States but if they are I would prefer if it was in the Northeast. The major I'm looking for is Neuroscience. Thank you all so much.
You鈥檙e way ahead of the game (in a good way)! With your GPA, you鈥檒l have a ton of options. For neuroscience in the Northeast, check out places like Brown, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, and Wesleyan 鈥� all have strong programs and good research access. If you鈥檙e open to outside the U.S., McGill (Canada) and Oxford (UK) are big names in neuro too. Since you鈥檙e only a freshman, the best move right now is just keep your grades strong, get involved in science-y clubs, and look for summer research/volunteering opportunities 鈥� that鈥檒l set you up well no matter where you end up.
Hey! I鈥檓 a high school sophomore and just saw your post, and I鈥檓 here to help! I鈥檝e been looking for colleges myself so it鈥檚 totally okay you are looking at colleges now. In fact its really good! Since you are really smart I would suggest for a Target or Advanced school; Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), John Hopkins University, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, Brown, Dartmouth, and Boston! Hi! I would totally agree! Shoot for those schools since you have such a good GPA. Also, if your test scores, like the PSAT, SAT, and ACT, are good, then you have an even better chance. But remember to volunteer and participate in lots of extracurriculars.
Also true! Extracurriculars look great on a resume. I currently do 5 extracurricular activities and have gotten better chances at better schools due to it!
One more addition from a senior here: make sure to take MANY AP & Honors courses, or IBs if you're doing that. A perfect GPA with few APs may lose out to a good GPA with many APs. Remember to take some on when AP options start opening up to you after Sophomore year! (Or sometimes during Sophomore, on rare occasions.)

Also don't be stressed if things don't work out with the Ivies! There are a TON of good Northeastern Universities, considering the Northeast was the first region of the US where universities populated. UConn, U of R, UMass, Rutgers, Syracuse University, any SUNY school, (I suppose Penn State counts here, plus Pittsburgh), UVM, and those are just the publics! Make sure to keep it mostly in the target range, and keep some safeties in your back pocket.
