Private and Ivy League vs. State Schools
So, I am planning on going to community college and then transferring to a state school for mechanical engineering, but I wanted to know if maybe somewhere like MIT would be a better choice. I know that the price is costly and that I may not even meet their requirements, but does going to a fancier school impact my future career and is it worth the extra tuition cost?
MIT: $53,000/year for 4 years
State School and community college: $15,000/year (only paying for 2 years, but attending 4)
I'll tell you what everyone is telling me. The best thing to do is save money. I want to go into law, so obviously, I was looking at prestigious schools, until a family friend who went to Harvard said that I should do community college, then state, and after that, if I still wanted to, law school. Like you, I can get two years free because of my state. Personally, I'm most likely going to do community then state, just to save money. A lot of people have said that "college is college", so that's what I'm going with.
