Should I go to a college that is more affordable or more prestigious in my ideal field?Answered
Though college is far away for me, as I am a current high school freshman, I have been told repeatedly it is up to me to pay for college with no help whatsoever. I want to be successful in my ideal career, so I am curious if going to a less expensive college would look bad to my future employers.

To avoid having student loans try searching for scholarships or apply for financial aid. A lot of prestigious universities (Harvard, Yale, MIT etc) have need blind admissions. This means they will accept you and offer the financial aid needed.

I received little help financially from my family. I made sure to mention this on my resume and in conversation by including 鈥減aid for X% of college.鈥� I pointed out I had a job starting at age 14.
There鈥檚 a lot to be respected in people who have to make their own way. If people look down on you for not attending a different college, don鈥檛 worry about them.
5-10 years after you graduate, no one will care where you went to college.
I attended a big state school. Now, for a living, I help people who attended places like Harvard, Yale, and Vassar. They don鈥檛 care I went to a state school.
