Rising Senior stuck in a scholarship block...
Answered

I have applied to so many scholarships since April or May that I've literally lost count. Yet, I haven't heard anything back from anyone. I've used bold.org, niche, RISLA, bigfuture.org, etc. At this point, I don't know what to do. My mother wants me to go to college debt free. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on what I should do?

Online scholarship programs are tough because there are so many students competing for the same thing. (I have not won anything either). My school has a scholarship banquet towards the end of the year where some figures in the community come and give scholarship to the students. If your community has something like this, your chances of winning increase significantly. The more specified the scholarship, the more chances you have of winning (I.E location, gender, ect).

Most colleges have a thing called "Merit Based Scholarships" (or presidential scholarships). Essentially, for good grades and test scores, they may give you a good bit of money to attend their college. Additionally, Financial aid can be very important for many families. Good luck! I hope you win some scholarships!!

I am a rising senior as well who hasn鈥檛 won anything either. Don鈥檛 get discouraged. Are you applying early decision? If not, you still have some time to apply. Maybe try asking a counselor at school about local scholarships-check your community center, library, churches.
