Requesting Financial Aid
Answered

Hi. When I applied to school using common app I said I wasn鈥檛 going to be asking for Financial Aid. I have started getting acceptances to schools and I am beginning to think I should apply for aid鈥 but since I said no- am I locked into that answer? Can it change my acceptance status? I am looking at out-of-state public colleges like Rutgers, SUNY, Temple etc. I鈥檓 not sure what to do鈥. I鈥檓 afraid they can take back my acceptance?

Thanks

Hi @Eab12358! You can definitely still fill out FAFSA and that shouldn't affect your acceptance status. That being said, you might not receive financial aid. I recommend reaching out to the schools you applied to individually and letting the admissions committee know of this change. They may have different policies on how to approach this. However, if you applied early decision and were accepted with the "No" box checked, it is more unlikely that you will receive institutional need-based aid at a later date. Your ED application might have partially resulted in an acceptance because you didn't need aid. Based on what you are saying, though, it seems like you didn't apply ED anywhere.

Hope that helps!

Hi! I've never been in this situation before but I wanted to try to answer anyway.

Reach out to your schools financial aid offices and complete the FAFSA form (if you're in the US) soon. If you've already been accepted, I don't think they can rescind your acceptance based on request for aid. Reach out to the schools! Check out their financial aid websites and follow their guides. It won't hurt to try.

I recommend reaching out to these schools, I accidentally clicked for one of my schools that I was not applying for financial aid and when I realized this I freaked out. I emailed the school and they fixed it, but I am not sure if that is how it works at all schools. Best of luck!
