Wanting to apply for housing early but also wait for financial aid packages?

Financial aid packages are going to be a big deciding factor in which school I'll go to. The thing is, I want to live on-campus and most housing applications open months earlier than when I receive my financial aid. I want to apply to housing early to ensure I get a spot, but at the same time I don't want to get into a binding contract with a school that might not give me the financial aid I need. Any advice?

If you have to make the decision between the two of them, I'd suggest waiting for the financial aid package to come back. It's great to live on campus, but it seems like the most important thing to sort out first is whether or not you will be attending the school at all -- which depends on the financial aid package.

Alternatively, you can reach out to someone at the school (a housing administrator or financial aid office) and ask them if there is any workaround. Explain your situation and ask if can you apply for housing without binding yourself! There might be a workaround of you might learn that the housing contract isn't quite as binding as it seems?

Good luck and I hope it all works out!

If there is really no option, then I'd still recommend waiting for the financial aid package. Less-than ideal housing is probably better than being stuck at a college that you can't
